Crystal Palace bounced back from Monday’s defeat to Sunderland as Alan Pardew’s side handed a trouncing to his former club Newcastle United at Selhurst Park thanks to a double from the imperious Yannick Bolasie .

A double from Bolasie, and James McArthur and one for Wilfried Zaha made sure Palace were not going home empty-handed for a second time in one week.

Palace’s front three of Connor Wickham, Bolasie, and Zaha caused the Newcastle defence untold problems throughout the game; as Palace produced a memorable display.

But Newcastle took the lead through Papiss Cisse, as Jason Puncheon was beaten by Daryl Janmaat far too easily; the Dutchman delivered an inch-perfect cross as the Senegalese international nodded home in front of the Holmesdale Road end.

Bolasie and McArthur score doubles as Palace batter Newcastle

It was a sucker-punch for Palace as they enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, with Zaha and Bolasie both looking lively on the flanks.

Palace restored parity shortly after Newcastle’s opener, and it was only their eighth goal from open play, as McArthur’s shot deflected off Paul Dummett and kindly fell into Newcastle’s net.

Newcastle’s goal seemed to spark the Eagles into life, and they were ahead, Bolasie scored only his second ever Premier League goal in the 17th minute.

It was a swift move by Pardew’s side as Wickham fed the ball across the box; Zaha’s miss-control gave Bolasie the chance to fire the ball past Rob Elliot to give Palace a deserved lead.

Zaha was a constant menace throughout the first-half, his pace and power was causing plenty of problems to the Newcastle backline. And he very nearly got himself on the score-sheet, but his effort was blocked.

The former Manchester United player finally got a goal his play merited five minutes before half-time, as again Palace attacked with pace and precision, something they were lacking on Monday evening.

Wickham got to the byline and picked out Zaha at the back post; Zaha’s volley was certainly a mishit as the ball bounced into the ground and then over the heads of both Elliot and Coloccini before it nestled in the net, giving Palace a two-goal cushion.

Newcastle’s defensive woes were exposed once again, as Palace scored a fourth immediately after the restart, as Bolasie grabbed his second of the game, as he tapped in from a Yohan Cabaye free-kick.

Wickham had a fabulous chance to get his first goal for Crystal Palace, but he couldn’t get any contact on Bolasie’s teasing cross – but the Sunderland man should have really done a lot better.

Palace had plenty of chances to add a fifth, but Pape Souare was guilty of missing a good chance.

Palace make it 5 goals late on

The Eagles capped off a fine performance with McArthur firing in from a tight angle in the last few minutes of the game.

It was a resounding performance from Palace as they dictated proceedings from start to finish; and it was certainly a far cry from Monday night where they were toothless and struggled to break down a stubborn Sunderland.

As for Newcastle, the struggle will go on, and after that display time for Steve McClaren is surely going to be coming to an end.
