Crystal Palace have put in a bid in excess of £20 million for Premier League rivals West Brom’s want away Striker Saidio Berahino, according to Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours over the last couple of transfer windows, and Palace have joined the list of English clubs who have bided for his services.

Palace in need of goals

Manager Alan Pardew’s side were the third lowest scores last season in the Premier League, with now former striker Dwight Gayle only finding the back of the net seven times in the league, so their need for an out and out goal-scorer is evident.

They tried to rectify this problem mid-season with the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor, however he has failed to impress during his fourth spell in English football, scoring just once against Watford back in February.

Home grown talent

The young forward burst into the West Brom starting eleven times back in 2013, just after Romelu Lukaku left the club for Everton and Peter Odemwinge had fallen out of favour.

He made his debut in a League Cup tie against Newport County in August that year and scored his first league goal in a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Since then he has gone on to score 35 goals for the Baggies in all competitions.

He has also been a regular member of the England U21 setup, with 10 goals to his name already.

Continued business

Despite West Brom's apparent stubbornness regarding bids for their star striker, Pardew will be hoping he can add Berahino to his list of completed transfers this summer.

The Eagles have already acquired central defender James Tomkins from West Ham, as well as winger Andros Townsend from Championship side Newcastle and experience goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from Marseille.

As well as Berahino, Palace have also previously made a £25m bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, although it is believed that a potential deal for the former Aston Villa forward is now dead.
