Everton are close to signing Muhamed Besic after agreeing a fee with Ferencvaros thought to be around £4million.

The 21-year-old, who was a star for Bosnia at the World Cup, played for Hamburg in his earlier career.

Besic is set to fly to Liverpool for negotiations after weeks of financial issues involving a deal for the midfielder.

The youngster enjoyed a particularly good game against Argentina, where he managed to stifle Lionel Messi for much of the game.

He will face competition from Gareth Barry for a place in the side, the former England midfielder was a revelation during a loan spell from Manchester City last year.
