The 33-year-old Cameroon striker has joined The Toffees on a two-year contract deal, after being released by Chelsea in June thus becoming a costless agent up until now.

Everton announced the signing on their official Twitter account yesterday evening, to some surprise from the football world - Eto'o was one of the best strikers in the world once upon a time and can still do a sufficient job for the team, hence why he was brought in by Martinez.

It was widely reported that Liverpool were in the race to sign Eto'o at some stage last week; but they completed the deal to sign Balotelli and ended their negotiations with him, so their Merseyside rivals were able to swoop in and persuade the former 4-time African Player of the Year to join them!

This is what Everton manager Martinez said about Eto'o signing: "I met him and we had a very good chat about football in general and I was impressed about the hunger he still has.

For someone who has achieved nearly everything, he still has the desire he had at 15 when he went to Spain and showed what he could do. For many reasons he has got a point to prove; we are very excited and I think Everton is the perfect home for him. The fans will make him ready and feel sharp but we have got to be a bit patient with the fitness levels and make sure he is back to his best."

Eto'o said this about his new challenge at Everton: "I'm very happy to be here, I am looking forward greatly to putting on the Blue shirt of Everton. I have been very impressed by the style of play Everton adopt; I could see straight away at this club I will have the opportunity to play football.

I was impressed with Martinez's enthuasiasm but also by the knowledge of football that he carries, his vision of football and how he reads the game. I still think I can learn a great deal from him here."

Eto'o and Lukaku up-top in a very impressive attacking duo for Everton. They could link together well to make up a strong partnership in the upcoming season, for sure.
