Tim Howard starred in Everton's goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday night but how did he and the other Everton players rate?

Howard the hero in sturdy robust effort

Tim Howard- 9/10

Howard faced criticism after Everton's 2-0 home defeat against Manchester City last week, but the USA international produced a number of good saves to earn Everton a solid away point and hit back at the criticism in style.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper denied Harry Kane one-on-one, saved Ryan Mason's shot with his legs and tipped Toby Alderweireld's header over the crossbar in the first half. Howard denied Mason again in the second half from close range before tipping Jan Vertonghen's shot over the bar to keep the score level.

The goalless draw was Howard's 111st Premier League clean sheet in an Everton shirt, which is a club record.

Seamus Coleman- 6/10

Coleman put in a good defensive display and was kept busy by Nacer Chadli but he would have perhaps wanted to get forward a little more.

John Stones- 7/10

It has been a difficult week for the 21-year-old, with the defender handing in a transfer request which was rejected by the club on Thursday after continued speculation about a possible move to Chelsea before the transfer window closes.

However, the centre-back put in a professional performance, despite boos from the Tottenham supporters, he looked comfortable on the ball whilst making several interceptions and blocks to deny Spurs.

Phil Jagielka- 7/10

The Everton captain led from the front, organising those around him and stood firm against Tottenham pressure, producing some key blocks.

Bryan Oviedo- 6/10

Oviedo made his first Premier League start since February after replacing the injured Brendan Galloway at left-back in Everton's only change from the team that lost to Manchester City last weekend.

The Costa Rican international appeared to have to shake off some rustiness in the first-half, with him often out of position. However, he improved in the second-half and created more chances than any other Everton player, including a dangerous cross which Arouna Kone headed just wide.

Midfield and attack fail to spark at the Lane

Gareth Barry- 7/10

It was Barry's 700th career appearance and how fitting that he picked up a yellow card, his 105th in the Premier League (that total is the most of any player in Premier League history).

Putting the booking aside, it was an good all-round performance by the 34-year-old.

Tom Cleverley- 6/10

Cleverley had Everton's best effort of the first-half forcing Hugo Lloris into a fine save in the 16th minute, before being substituted just before half-time after a heavy challenge by former Everton academy player Eric Dier.

James McCarthy- 7/10

It was another reliable and solid performance by McCarthy in the centre of midfield. The 24-year-old was Everton's best passer, completing 52 of his 61 passes including 18 passes in the attacking third, the most of any Everton player.

Ross Barkley- 7/10

Barkley looked to get forward at every opportunity to try to gain three points. He created some chances with the little Everton did create but the midfielder dropped deeper in the second half to help McCarthy and Barry in the midfield battle.

Arouna Kone- 6/10

Kone worked hard and played everywhere across Everton's frontline. He held the ball up and distributed it well but also got into the box. However, he perhaps should have done better with his glancing header that went just wide of the post from Oviedo's cross in the second-half.

Romelu Lukaku- 6/10

Lukaku didn't look like the player who looked unstoppable against Southampton a few weeks ago, scoring two goals but he did cause Tottenham's defence some problems, especially in the first-half, but he wasn't given much service.

He was isolated at times and seemed to tire in the second half after playing 120 minutes against Barnsley in midweek and he was eventually substituted in the 68th minute.

Substitutes:

Kevin Mirallas- 6/10: Mirallas replaced Tom Cleverley just before half-time; however he struggled to make an impact.

Steven Naismith- 6/10: Naismith was a nuisance after replacing Lukaku and caused the Spurs defence problems. The Scot felt as though he should have had a penalty after Kyle Walker appeared to pull his shirt.

Gerard Deulofeu- N/A: Deulofeu came on with seven minutes to go and which did not give him enough time to have an impact that he had in Everton's 4-3 victory over Barnsley in the Capital One Cup in midweek.
