Will John Stones stay or will he go, has been a question that has been asked for most of the summer.

However, Everton supporters are very close to finding out the answer as the English transfer window shuts tomorrow (Tuesday 1 September) at 18:00 (BST).

Along with the Stones situation, here are five things to look out for on deadline day from an Everton perspective.

Will he stay or will he go?

Stones has been at the centre of one of this summer's biggest transfer stories and it will be definitely be a deal that Everton supporters will be watching intensely as they count down to the transfer window shutting.

Everton have had a clear stance from the start of the window that the England international is 'not for sale' at any price, however this has not stopped Chelsea submitting bids worth £20m, £26m and £30million in quick succession.

Bill Kenwright has so far held firm and rejected all of Chelsea's three bids this summer and if Stones remains an Everton player after tomorrow's deadline then it will send out a big statement.

If Stones does leave for Chelsea, then it is likely that Roberto Martinez will seek a replacement.

Everton have been linked with Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Inter Milan captain Andrea Ranocchia.

However, Chelsea are close to signing Senegal defender Papy Djilobodju from Nantes, who José Mourinho perhaps sees as an alternative to Stones.

Will Everton beat the deadline to sign Mori?

Everton are hoping to complete the transfer of defender Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate before tomorrow's deadline.

This deal is not believed to be dependent on whether Stones stays or leaves Goodison Park tomorrow as Martinez feels that he needs another centre-back after releasing both Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcarez this summer.

Everton have already agreed a £5.5million fee for Mori and the defender was in the stands wearing an Everton scarf in the Toffees' 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last weekend. However, the Toffees are still waiting for international clearance before they can confirm the transfer.

Could Aaron Lennon make a return to Goodison Park?

The Tottenham Hotspur winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park and Lennon is believed to want a return to Everton on a permanent basis.

Roberto Martinez remains interested in re-signing Lennon after he made an impression in his 14 appearances for the Toffees last season, scoring two goals.

However, Everton could face competition from fellow Premier League club West Ham United, who are also believed to be interested in him.

Will there be a big money signing?

Keeping John Stones will make a big statement but if Everton spend money on bringing a quality player to Goodison Park before the window shuts, then that will for sure send an even bigger statement to the football world.

Martinez has said that he was keen to bring in a playmaker before the end of the transfer window and Everton are reportedly interested in Dynamo Kiev's Andriy Yarmolenko and Shakhtar Donetsk's Bernard.

Everton were ready to meet Yarmolenko's release clause but negotiations with Keiv proved tough and the board decided to look elsewhere, however Everton could renew their interest on deadline day.

Expect the unexpected

It is transfer deadline day and as has been said on so many occasions it is a day when you should 'expect the unexpected.'

Roberto Martinez has publicly declared his intentions to bring in one more player before the window shuts and highly-rated Sevilla striker Juan Munoz is believed to be on Everton's radar.

Past deadline day's have seen Everton being busy right upto the the deadline and beyond.

In Martinez's first transfer window at Goodison Park, he signed Gareth Barry and James McCarthy and also loaned Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on deadline day.

On the last deadline day in February, Martinez signed Aaron Lennon on loan for the reminder of last season. Could that be repeated again tomorrow?

It is most likely that there will be some activity at Everton tomorrow and it may go right down to the wire but expect the unexpected as there is no doubt Martinez, Kenwright and Robert Elstone have a trick up their sleeve.
