Everton manager Roberto Martinez hailed the summer transfer window a success, after keeping hold of defender John Stones and signing seven new players.

Martinez said that he was "really pleased" with Everton's transfer business after adding Tom Cleverley, Gerard Deulofeu, David Henen, Mason Holgate, Leandro Rodriguez, Ramiro Funes Mori and Aaron Lennon to his squad.

The Everton boss added that the transfer window will allow Everton to "carry on with continuity" in the squad and "develop" some of Everton's "young talent" while adding some "outstanding characters" to Goodison Park.

New players

New signings Tom Cleverley (England), Aaron Lennon (England), Gerard Deulofeu (Spain) and Ramiro Funes Mori (Argentina) have all represented their senior national side and Martinez said bringing four full senior internationals to Goodison Park reflects the "high calibre of players we have been able to bring in."

Deulofeu, who was on loan at Everton in Martinez's first full season in charge, and Lennon, who spent the second-half of last season on loan at Goodison Park, both return to the club and Martinez added that they represent a "guarantee in terms of settling in well to the club and adding to our squad."

Martinez also signed defender Ramiro Funes Mori from Argentine club River Plate and the Everton boss said that Mori will add "some qualities that are needed" in Everton's side.

Everton also signed Uruguayan striker Leandro Rodriguez from River Plate Montevideo and Martinez said that at 22-years-old the striker is a "bright goalscoring talent."

Continuity

Everton managed to keep defender John Stones, after rejecting three bids from Chelsea and a transfer request from the player, and other key players including James McCarthy and Kevin Mirallas, who both signed contract extensions this summer.

Martinez said that keeping the "main performers" of the team will help to "integrate" the new signings into the team and allow the Toffees to "carry on reaching better levels of performance on a consistent basis."

Young talents

Martinez added that the window has been "very positive" for Everton in bringing "more exceptional talent" to Goodison Park, after signing 19-year-old striker David Henen from Olympiacos and 18-year-old defender Mason Holgate from Barnsley.

Both players have a "really exciting future" ahead of them, according to Martinez.
