Ahead of Everton’s Premier League game with Swansea City, Roberto Martinez has spoken to the media.

Martinez pleased with his squad

Martinez has said he is “very very confident” in the options he has within his squad, a point which can be backed up by looking at the Everton bench against Chelsea, and seeing key players such as Kevin Mirallas and Gerard Deulofeu as unused substitutes on the day.

During the Europa League campaign last season, Martinez’s side did not have the depth to compete on multiple fronts but adding players such as Ramiro Funes Mori and Aaron Lennon, versatile players, will allow Everton to compete.

On the month ahead

The Everton boss acknowledged his sides tough month ahead, where they will play Arsenal, Manchester United and a Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

Martinez said that the first 10 games are “very challenging” but his side have “found out a lot about themselves.”  He also said that the wins over Southampton and Chelsea have “set the levels” for his team this season.

Injuries and fitness

Seamus Coleman and Muhammed Besic were both substituted in the win over Chelsea due to injuries but Martinez says both have a chance to make the Swansea game.

Both Coleman and Besic left the game with hamstring injuries but their returns would be a huge boost to Martinez’s side.

Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo are also close to returns to the Everton side, with Martinez saying Oviedo could be available for the Reading tie in Capital One Cup.

Gibson could be back after playing 70 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly during the week but just requires match fitness before he is back with the first team.

Leandro Rodriguez could join the first team

After playing two games for Everton’s U21’s and scoring in both, Leandro Rodriguez could earn himself a call up to the Everton first team.

Roberto Martinez said the striker is an “out and out goalscorer” who has the “knack of finding a way to score.”

The Toffees boss said he is not far away from the first team and he’s “impressed” by his attitude and how he has adapted already.
