Everton host Liverpool in the 225th Merseyside Derby on Sunday looking for their first win over their arch rivals since October 2010.

There may only be a very short distance between the two clubs, with just Stanley Park separating the two clubs, and just one-point separating the pair in the Premier League. However, there is much more pressure on Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers than Everton boss Roberto Martinez and Everton come into this match as favourites.

Head-to-head

Everton have not beaten Liverpool in the last nine attempts in the league, their longest winless league streak in this fixture since an 11-match run between 1979 and 1984.

Five of the last six games have been drawn and the Toffees' only victory in the 17 most recent league meetings came at Goodison Park in October 2010.

Will tempers fray?

It is considered to be one of the toughest football derbies in the world and this fixture has produced 20 red cards in the Premier League, more than any other fixture in the division.

However, there has not been a sending off in the last eight derbies in all competitions since Jack Rodwell's red card in 2011- which was later rescinded- and is exactly four years to the day.

Everton have not been awarded a penalty in this fixture since David Unsworth scored at Goodison Park in April 2003.

Is this Everton's time?

After five years and 10 derbies in all competitions without a win, Everton will feel that this is their time, especially after their current form compared to Liverpool's.

Everton come into the match unbeaten in their last four matches and high on confidence after their thrilling three-goal comeback against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night. It was the first time since 1994 that the Toffees have come from two goals behind to win a Premier League match.

A 2-0 defeat to league leaders Manchester City is the Toffees' only league defeat so far this season and the Merseyside Derby is the first time Everton have played at Goodison Park since they beat Chelsea 3-1.

However, Roberto Martinez will be hoping that his side can become more consistent as they have not recorded back-to-back league wins since April and, although they have scored three goals in half of their six league games, they have failed to score in the other three.

The opposition

Pressure is mounting on Brendan Rodgers after his side has taken just 11 points out of a possible 21 in the top-flight so far this season. However, a win against arch rivals Everton will certainly ease some pressure going into next week's international break.

Liverpool have scored just seven goals in as many league games, and they found the back of the net just three times in their opening five games. However, they have been boosted by the return of striker Daniel Sturridge, who scored twice against Aston Villa in only his second game back after five months on the sidelines.

Liverpool's defence has also looked vulnerable. They have conceded nine goals in their last four league games, after keeping clean sheets in their opening three matches of the season.

Whereas Everton have had since last Monday to prepare for one of the most anticipated fixtures in the football calendar, Liverpool have had less that 72 hours to prepare after a 1-1 draw against FC Sion at Anfield in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night. Everton struggled with the demands of playing European football last season, but Liverpool will certainly not be letting any tiredness affect their performance on Sunday.

Key players

There has not been much between the two sides in recent Merseyside Derby's - in fact, five of the last six derbies have been drawn. However, both sides consist of players who are capable of producing a moment of brillance to change the match.

Ross Barkley- Barkley is a local boy and perhaps there is an added passion to beat Everton's local rivals. The midfielder will be looking to continue his impressive start to the season, which has seen him score two goals and assist three in seven league games this season.

Romelu Lukaku- The question is- which Lukaku will turn-up? At times this season, Lukaku has looked unstoppable, when he scored two goals against Southampton and during the second-half against West Brom on Monday night, where he scored two goals and an assist. However, the Belgium international has also looked isolated including in the goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur and the first-half against West Brom. He is a player who can cause defences problems and he will look to exploit Liverpool's defensive weaknesses that have been highlighted over recent weeks.

Daniel Sturridge- Sturridge's return to the Liverpool side has been a big boost for the Red's but he is a player that the Everton defence will need to keep quiet. The striker has scored six goals in his last eight games against Everton and he has the best goals per game ratio of any Liverpool player in Premier League history (0.65).

Team News

Defenders Seamus Coleman (hamstring) and John Stones (knee) could return from injury but they will face late fitness tests on the morning of the match. If they are fit enough to start then they would be a big boost to Everton. The trio of Phil Jagielka, Stones and Coleman have only lost nine of the 29 matches they have started together.

Muhamed Besic is unlikely to recover in time from a hamstring problem, while Kevin Mirallas is still suspended.

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke faces a late assessment on his fitness, having missed the last three games with a hamstring injury.

Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren remain on the sidelines.
