Following what was a solid first leg result at home for Everton; with the Toffees winning 2-1 at Goodison Park, they will head to the Etihad Stadium with the advantage.

Nevertheless, the Toffees have to be aware and play smart as Manchester City will be gunning from the opening whistle. Here are five things for the Merseyside-based outfit to look out for as they strive to progress to their first major final in over seven years:

1. Stopping Sergio Aguero

After starting slowly this season, Sergio Aguero has began to pick up his form. He has scored two goals in each of past two games against West Ham and Crystal Palace and looks to be in devastating form.

He had three shots against the Toffees 13 days ago during their 0-0 in Manchester in the Premier League and forced some solid saves from Tim Howard. Everton's defense has been shaky as of late and an in form Aguero could spell danger for Roberto Martinez's men.

2. How will Everton attack in this game?

Coming into this game, Manchester City will be desperate for a goal and will test the Everton backline and defence. So, the question to be asked about Roberto Martinez is that will Everton either park the bus and strike on the counter or attack Manuel Pellegrini's troops as they normally would do.

With a fragile lead to protect, there are risks invovled in either way they approach it so it will be interesting to see how the Blues set up against the three-time League Cup winners.

3. Who can control the midfield?

It will be a battle of who controls the midfield to who will dominate the chances in this game. Yaya Toure and Fernandinho will likely be in the middle for Manchester City while Gareth Barry and Mohammed Besic will be there for Everton.

As many have seen before, Toure has the ability to control games and can certainly hit the ball from distance which more often than not can arrow into the top corner.

It's up to the Toffee duo to make sure that they can impose themselves upon the match at the Etihad and at least attempt to keep the ex-Barcelona man quiet. It will also be vitally important that the pair are able clear their lines and get the ball up to Romelu Lukaku as quickly as they can when a chance presents itself.

4. Impact of Willy Caballero

It seems that Joe Hart won't be starting this game as backup Willy Caballero has managed to staked his claim in the FA Cup and Capital One Cup so far and will probably continue to do so.

Hart had some solid saves against West Ham and it is surprising to see the England goalie not called into action here, especially in such a big game with City's backs against the wall.

Therefore, it might be reasonable for Everton to test the sparingly-used Argentine 'keeper as much as possible and really see if his lack of game-time has affected him at all.

5. Is one away goal enough for Everton?

The away goal rule is one of the most controversial rules in football and it will be in full effect here if the scores end up level on aggregate at the conclusion of 120 minutes at the Etihad.

With the Citizens picking up a goal at Goodison in the first leg, they will advance if the game is tied on aggregate at the end of this period. On the other hand, if Everton can take an away goal then the tie will swing fully in the Toffees favour.

So, Roberto Martinez and his men will more than likely have to net in Manchester in order to guarantee their passage to the Wembley final. The question is how many goals will they need to score.
