Everton signed Oumar Niasse from Lokomotiv Moscow for a fee of £13.5million on transfer deadline day making him the club's third most expensive signing in their history.

Only Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini have cost the Toffees more and, although Lukaku remains the first name on the Everton team-sheet, Niasse's seems sure to be alongside it, but how will the Senegal international fit into Roberto Martinez's plans?

Niasse bolsters Everton's attacking options

Every football manager is looking for ways to improve his side; whether this is new players, new formation or a new style of play and Martinez certainly brought in Niasse to add to the quality in Everton's side and clearly thinks he will improve his side.

Niasse certainly bolsters Everton's attacking options, especially following the departure of Steven Naismith to Norwich City. The 25-year-old is a versatile forward who is capable of both leading the front-line by himself and playing on the wing with his strength and pace.

Roberto Martinez made no secret of his aversion to buying in January, unless one of his identified targets suddenly became available. However, with the sale of Naismith leaving the Toffees short on cover for Romelu Lukaku, Everton acted quickly to bring the Senegal international to Goodison Park before the deadline shut.

Niasse is a player that Everton have long admired and scouted, and after being the subject of interest from other clubs during the transfer window together with the sale of Naismith, Everton acted quickly to bring the Senegal international to Goodison Park.

Romelu Lukaku is Everton's undisputed leading man, scoring 15 of Everton's 43 Premeir League goals this season, but Niasse has been brought in to provide more goals to Everton's forward line.

The Senegal international has scored 12 times in 21 games in the Russian Premier League this season, scoring a goal every 140 minutes in all competitions. To put that in to perspective, Lukaku is averaging a goal every 138 minutes this season, with Arouna Kone scoring every 243 minutes.

However, it is not just finishing that Niasse appears to excel at; he is also very capable at creating chances for his team mates. He has already provided ten assists in his 23 games in all competitions this season, compared to five in 29 games for Lukaku and three in 25 for Kone.

A partner for Lukaku or will he be played out wide?

Niasse is capable of leading a front line or playing on the wing and a versatile forward is the type of player that Martinez seems to desire, with the Everton boss playing both Arouna Kone and Steven Naismith on the wings this season.

Everton's formation has often been changed from Roberto Martinez's preferred 4-2-3-1 into either 4-3-3 or a traditional 4-4-2 when Lukaku and Kone play together. Kone's power and presence alongside Lukaku has proven a handful for opposition, however the Ivory Coast striker has struggled for consistency.

This could be where Roberto Martinez sees Niasse fitting in. Apart from his work rate and being a serious goal threat, perhaps one of the other major attributes that attracted Martinez to Niasse is the amount of chances he creates and he will be hoping that he can bring out the best in Lukaku, with the Belgian failing to score in his last five games, whether this is alongside him or out wide.

For Lokomotiv Moscow, Niasse primarily played as a target striker in a 4-3-3 formation, but at Everton he could play on the wing, which will see his strength and explosive pace offer the Toffees another dimension to their attack. At the other end of the pitch, his hard work could make him a good fit for Martinez's high pressure system.
