Everton have to rebuild after their 5-0 hammering at the hands of Chelsea last time out. They return to Goodison Park fresh off an international break where key players were able to avoid injury a build on their form.
Speaking to the assembled media at Finch Farm, Ronald Koeman said that the defeat was a “big step back” but being back at home presents the Blues with a chance to get back in front of their supporters, where he says his team are “strong.”
Koeman said his side have to show that similar result cannot as Chelsea cannot happen “one day more.”
Swansea City and Bob Bradley are the opponents this weekend and the Blues boss was complimentary of the Swans, stating that they are “a good team” who want to "play football from the back.”
Key players returning from injury
The Blues are able to welcome back Leighton Baines and James McCarthy from their injuries. Baines has been out since the trip to Manchester City in the middle of October.
Koeman said that the pair have had a “good week” in training and are available for Saturday.
Bryan Oviedo has been able to deputise for Baines and could find himself back on the substitute bench against Swansea.
McCarthy is likely to step into the hole left by Gareth Barry as he misses out through suspension. He could partner Idrissa Gana Gueye as he returns from his one-game suspension.
Everton linked with Memphis Depay
Everton have been linked a move for Manchester United winger Memphis Depay during the January transfer window.
The Blues boss has been talking up the talent of his fellow Dutchman, who he targeted when during his tenure as Southampton boss.
Koeman said that if there is “any opportunity” to sign Depay that he would “of course be interested” in bringing him to Goodison Park.
Injury report
Gareth Barry misses out as he serves a one-game suspension, but the Toffees are able to recall Idrissa Gueye after he served his suspension.
The visitors could be able to call on Nathan Dyer following a successful recovery from an ankle injury. While Ecuadorian winger, Jefferson Montero, could play with a cast on the hand he broke during the Swans defeat to Manchester United.
