For Steve Bruce's men, this will be their first game of preseason as they have recently returned from a strenous and intense week of training in the heat of Portugal as they prepare for a European debut in two weeks time.

The game will though will be too early for the return of World Cup duo, Nikica Jelavic and Maynor Figueroa. This will be to keep them fresh for the Europa League qualififer, which is just 10 days away.

Steve Bruce : “They’ll not play a part in any of the games this week,”

“We’ll be working with them to ease them back first because there’s no point pushing them after such a short summer.

The squad will be cut into half as one will take on North Ferriby while the other will travel to Harrogate Town.

“Most people will play 90 minutes on Monday with us having two games,” he explained.

“Half will go to Ferriby and half will go to Harrogate. I’ll use the whole squad as best we can and supplement it with a few of the under-21s.

“Then I’ll look to see who is above everyone else as we look at Wednesday and Saturday and take it from there. It’s difficult to prepare in such a short space of time but we’ll be ready for it.”
