Liverpool keep up their unbeaten record at Anfield against Hull with a dominant performance against Hull City, beating the Tigers 5-1.

Throughout the first 15 minutes of the game Liverpool bossed possession and immediately you could sense that this fixture was only heading in one direction. After a few attempts at goal including a Jordan Henderson volley steering wide and James Milner looking up for the game beating Ahmed Elmohamedy several times on the wing, deadlock was soon to be broken.

It came from Philippe Coutinho, in the 17th minute, deliciously dancing through the Hull defence, cutting inside to feed Adam Lallana who scruffily finishes into the bottom right corner trickling beyond Marshall.

Shortly after a penalty is conceded by Ahmed Elmohamedy by clearly handling the ball on the goal line to prevent a goal and is dismissed by Andre Marriner. The penalty converted clinically by James Milner with a simple side foot finish into the bottom right corner.

As we went beyond the thirty minute mark Sadio Mané hits the crossbar after a deflected strike from outside the box, almost calibrating his shooting to then later turn and finish smartly on the edge of the Hull City area to make it 3-0 Liverpool.

Damage control for Hull as Harry Maguire is brought on in place for Tom Huddlestone

Liverpool began the second half as they did the first with a high tempo and pressing Hull at every opportunity. Against the run of play, the substitute David Meyler hits a right footed shot into the bottom left corner flying past Liverpool’s new keeper Loris Karius, giving Hull a lifeline at 3-1.

The door was immediately shut on Hull City’s comeback as the Brazilian magician, Philippe Coutinho continues his fine form by curling a beautiful shot from outside of the area into the top corner across Marshall, only one minute after Meyler grabbed one back.

The onslaught continued as Daniel Sturridge replaces Adam Lallana and instantly impacts by using his impeccable close control to win a penalty gifted by Andrew Robertson, clipping the Liverpool striker just inside the Hull box. The consistent Milner steps up once again to dispatch the spot kick, again, into the bottom right corner.

A rampant performance is coolly seen out by Liverpool and the final score being 5-1, which flattered Hull as it could have developed into a cricket score.

Mike Phelan will feel disappointed with his team’s performance, however it is clear that Liverpool were on top form on the day therefore this is simply a harsh reality of the quality that Hull will face this season. Hull face Chelsea next at the KCOM Stadium.
