Hull City were condemned to one of their worst defeats in their Premier League history as they were thrashed 6-1 at BournemouthJunior Stanislas scored twice to pace the Cherries' attack. Ryan Mason had Hull's lone tally, which actually levelled the match before Bournemouth scored the final five goals.

After the match, manager Mike Phelan, named permanent boss this past week, took full responsibility for the pounding:

"I thought we were victims of our own downfall in some respects. We're conceding far too many and I'll take responsibility for that.

"I will look at myself, players will look at themselves and we start again. We'll learn, but we have to learn quickly."

Phelan also commented on his team's apparent lack of immaturity:

"I feel very embarrassed. I've got a team here who show what they can do when they want to.

"We've got to grow up. Unless we concentrate and be disciplined, we won't get to where we want. What we've done today is not good enough."

Perhaps Phelan's most curious move was leaving Abel Hernandez on the bench in favor of Will Keane. Afterwards, Phelan defended the selection, but seemed to inject some hindsight into the decision:

"Will has shown a great attitude. He put in a shift. He moved around and on the whole, Will put extreme effort into the game.

"He’s been travelling. I just wanted to make Will Keane felt part of something. I don’t think that was the downfall of the team.

"It takes concentration, discipline in courage and we didn’t show that. We had that and we need to get it back."

"I was happy with the selection. Possibly my naivety was to chase the game and open ourselves up."

Full-back Andy Robertson limped off injured in the second half. Phelan said: "A problem with his calf not sure if it’s a kick or more serious than that. We won't know for another 24-48 hours."
