During the course of the Premier League season, he has shown his raw ability. One of his strengths so far this season has been his shot stopping. Since coming to the Premier League, Simon Mignolet has been renowned for his shot stopping whether its bottom corner or top corner he somehow pulls them off. The game against Everton at Goodison Park, Barkley cut inside onto his right foot, the ball just bounced before him and diving to his left hand side Mignolet turned it round the post. This strength of his will only improve more and more and be key in the years to come. What comes with good shot stopping comes with good reflexes, against Crystal Palace, shot from outside the box ricocheted off a Palace player and Mignolet was forced into a good save. This season he has made 61 saves in 29 appearances. Another strength from this season has been his positioning; having this ability and the ability of shot saving is key. For him being in a good position gives him the chance to get a clean connection with the ball and evade the danger, in comparison to Pepe Reina he wasn’t in the right position to make the save and when he made connection he couldn’t get the full connection which often led to opposition goals. Most of Mignolet’s saves have been through good positioning whether its distance shots or one on ones. For positioning Simon Mignolet is the best keeper in the Premier League.

The drawback of his season so far has been his cross catching from; corners; crosses; freekicks. This season, he's looked shaky from crosses barely catching them and sometimes missing punches. Part of the problem is the lack of communication. In the Aston Villa game at Anfield, he was partly to blame for their second goal. Agbonlahor’s cross was flapped at by Mignolet which could’ve been cleared by Johnson fell to Benteke and that made it 2-0.

One of Simon Mignolet’s best games this season was on his debut against Stoke. What a start to his Liverpool career for the Belgian. Not only was his penalty save then his rebound was a great to start, on numerous occasions he made good saves to keep the clean sheet for Liverpool. Over the last few seasons a good start has been hard to come by the Reds and Mignolet’s fine performance helped them on their way to 3 important points at the start of the season.
