Liverpool may be flying high in the league and closing in on record breaking season where they might lift the Premier League title come May, against all the odds, however, behind the scenes, Rodgers, Ayre and co are working hard to bring in world class reinforcements for next season.

Liverpool's transfer committee have been working hard to bring in a brilliant left back, a position that has been idle since Riise reigned supreme at Anfield. Paul Konchesky, Insua, Enrique and Cissokho have slotted into the left back spot, but none have received the plaudits from the Kopites. Jon Flanagan is currently impressing boss Rodgers with his passion and is enthusiasm, although his technical ability is yet to be shown.

Liverpool are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund left-back Marcel Schmelzer according to BILD. Liverpool scouts have been monitoring the impressive German all season, and it's believed Ian Ayre will enter negotiations soon in hope of landing an agreement before the player heads off to Brazil for the World Cup.
