Liverpool FC have today confirmed the capture of Serbian attacker, Lazar Markovic.

The deal for Markovic has been long mooted as one the Liverpool FC would pursue - originally it was thought the Serb was lined up as an alternative for another summer capture, Adam Lallana. This turned out not to be the case and Markovic now officially joins the club after a year at Portuguese side S.L. Benfica for a fee believed to be in the region of €25 million.

Markovic has been snapped in the city in the past couple of days, so the completion of the deal is little surprise to social media users. However, Liverpool fans will be relieved the club have now officially gained the services of one of Europe's brightest talents.

The Serbian conducted a lengthy interview with LFCTV on arrival where he expressed his excitement at getting started with the Reds:

I have seen what the players are like, I have seen what the supporters are like, and now I cannot wait to start playing there.

Markovic, much like fellow new boy Emre Can, has lofty ambitions at LFC:

I went to Partizan and won the title. I went to Benfica and won the title. Now I have joined Liverpool and want to win the title, 100 per cent.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his delight at the addition, stating that Markovic was 'hugely impressive' last term and dubbed the Serbian the sort of hungry character the club are looking for.

Liverpool FC's early summer business continues!
