When LFC announced its friendly with Brondby in June 2014, it was without the fan fair that accompanied the announcement of the US tour. It seemed the major significance of the match was that it's the first LFC match this preseason. But not quiet. In tweeting ' I have waited 8 and half years for this game', Daniel Agger showed that this was not just another preseason fixture. It is reported that as part of the deal to bring Agger from Brondby, LFC agreed to play the Danish club in a friendly.  No wonder Brondby has been looking forward to the match. The LFC tour website quoted their sporting director, Peter Rud as saying “we look forward to welcoming Liverpool FC at Brondby". The match holds significance not just for Agger. It also commemorates the Danish club's 50th anniversary. “Liverpool are an important part of our club's history and the friendly on July 16, is therefore a perfect way to mark Brondby's 50th anniversary...".

Pre-season matches offer benefits beyond football. For Liverpool's chief commercial officer, the match offers them an opportunity in "....in bringing the club closer to our fans through this pre-season friendly against one of the biggest teams in the country". The match therefore will help take the club to their fans in a part of the world that has traditionally been one of the bastions of Liverpool support. Peter Rud affirms Hogan's point saying, “Liverpool are one of the biggest and most popular clubs and we hope that a great deal of Brondby fans and Scandinavian fans of Liverpool will take part in this unique experience at Brondby Stadium".

These non-football significance of this match notwithstanding the core reasons for a preseason match is not lost on the club, fans and players. “Training and fitness is really important but games are too because you are going to play every weekend" Suso was quoted on the club's website. The game will therefore provide the platform for the players to build up game fitness. He adds that “the manager will put in the team the ones that are better; if someone is playing better they will have more chances”. Suso clearly alludes to the chance to impress the manager and lay claim to starting slots in the team. This competition will benefit the team. The journey to establishing a place in a team for these players begins in Brondby. For fans it's an opportunity to see the team after a long while and see some of the new signings too. Definitely they will be looking forward to LFC winning the match to build confidence. Martin Skrtel emphasizes this need for a good start. "When you start per-season with a good result, the mood and atmosphere is much better", he said on the club's website. “We go again” will be on the lips of many LFC fans as they await the Brondby match; a match that commences LFC’s season.
