After a 2-1 defeat away to Brøndby, Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 yesterday as Jordon Ibe played a hand in Suso's superb effort and Kristoffer Peterson's cool finish. It was the six-man substitutions that changed the game, and the youngsters added a real verve to their side, but what have we learned across the 180 minutes of Liverpool's pre-season campaign so far?

1. Kristoffer Peterson has earned a spot on the plane to America

Peterson has only played 45 minutes of the first half in Denmark, and 28 minutes at Deepdale yesterday, and yet in that short space of time he has impressed. The 19-year-old now has two goals in two successive appearances, both in a similar nature. Both created by Jordon Ibe's burst to the byline before cutting back inside the area to the forward to place in the back of the net. "Young Kristoffer Peterson has come in and got two goals" Rodgers told the official Liverpool website yesterday "I said to him, 'You'll now come to America on the back of what you've done in your training'." That's great man management from Rodgers, and the Swede has earned it. Talented and with the right attitude, he has excelled as the lone man up top and has worked hard for his chance to fly to the USA with the senior squad. Liverpool fans will look forward to witnessing his progression over the next couple of weeks.

 2. Jordon Ibe is an outstanding talent.

After Raheem Sterling broke into the fold at the start of the 2012-13 season, many wondered who it could be next. Liverpool have a host of talented youngsters in their set-up, but it was Jordon Ibe who made his mark when he made his debut in Jamie Carragher's final game against QPR on the last day of that campaign. He was just 17-years-old that day, and managed to get an assist to his name, but now it seems he's almost ready to become the next starlet off of the production line. Fearlessness, directness, trickery, pace, an eye for goal and flexibility makes him a huge asset. Though he was farmed out to Birmingham City on loan for half of last season, Ibe has shone so far in this pre-season, assisting all three of Liverpool's goals so far. All three were powerful, driving runs before either cutting back inside to find a man or a clever pass for a teammate to hit home. Blessed with a full palette of skills, Ibe hsa looked a cut-above all of his opponents and may just have a case to announce himself on the biggest stages of all next season.

3. Philippe Coutinho looks ready for a huge season.

Liverpool's diminuitive Brazilian playmaker looks to have brushed off the fact he was an absentee of his country's host World Cup campaign, with impressive cameos so far. After finishing the season with some delightful performances, Coutinho has been almost untouchable at times in pre-season. He was the outstanding player in the first game against Brøndby, where he dazzled spectators with an array of tricks and flicks. It was a sight to behold, and if he could sort out his shooting accuracy, he could be on his way to become the complete midfielder. Whether he takes up a 'no.10' role or reverts back to a central midfield position, Coutinho will be in for a huge season. The 22-year-old will likely directly compete with Adam Lallana, and so he will have to ensure he maintains good form to keep a starting spot. If pre-season is anything to go by, he certainly looks prepared for the battle.

4. Emre Can could be a smart signing.

He may only have featured for 20 minutes yesterday, but Emre Can put in an eye-catching performance as he looked every inch of the £10 million box-to-box midfielder that Brendan Rodgers sought after. Comfortable in possession, powerful going forward and committed in the tackle, Can made an effort of showing that he is capable of a number of duties, an asset that could come in useful throughout the course of the campaign. Unfortunately, his debut was restricted by a tight calf, but he still managed to look a promising prospect. The 20-year-old is very highly rated in his homeland, and if this short showing is anything to go by, he could establish himself as a real presence in that midfield. Brendan Rodgers told the club’s official website: ”Young Emre was excellent; he showed some lovely touches on the ball. He’s got power and pace. He just had a little bit of tightness in his calf, so as a precaution we took him off early on.”

5. Lucas' time may be coming to a close.

For all the positives of the two games, Lucas Leiva hasn't got off to the best of starts. The defensive midfielder showed a few glimpses in Denmark, but Lucas was severely substandard against Preston. He was guilty of many a misplaced pass, not tracking or pressing, losing out on a number of 50-50s and was simply not up to speed. That's not to say Liverpool should look to offload him, as he certainly has the ability, but he needs to find his form quickly and convince Brendan Rodgers if he wants to play a major part in 2014-15. Still, Lucas has not deserved the incredibly harsh criticism he has received on Twitter. Several years ago, Lucas was the scapegoat of the side before becoming a midfield marvel and forcing everyone's criticism down their throats. Here's hoping for a repeat of that, without the injury this time. He has been a loyal servant, and the 27-year-old puts in 100% every game. However, he was admittedly outshone by 16-year-old Jordan Rossiter yesterday, who looked very composed in the midfield anchor role. Lucas meanwhile, looked devoid of confidence and it seems as though if the right offer should come in, his time at Anfield may come to an end.
