Kristoffer Peterson, more commonly known as Kris Peterson, has achieved first team recognition this pre-season with impressive performances against both Brondby IF and Preston North End. Brendan Rodgers has noticed this, which has led to the young Swede earning himself a last minute place on the plane to America. But does this signify the start of a rapid climb into Liverpool's first team for the 19 year old?

Peterson entered the game at half time at Brondby Stadium and made an almost immediate impact, after Jordan Ibe's impressive dribble led to a pull back for the winger, gifting him an easy chance and his first ever first team goal. The Reds went on to lose the game, but Peterson would've been thrilled to score for the first team. A few days later, Liverpool faced Preston for the second year running at Deepdale. Peterson was again used as a subsitute this time coming on in the 62nd minute. Once again, he scored shortly after coming on, giving Liverpool the lead in the 76th minute.

So with two goals in as many games, perhaps Peterson will be included in the squad for the opening game of the season against Southampton. But he'll have stiff competition from new recruits and fellow youth players. With £75 million coming in from the sale of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona, there may be a position available for him, but with reports linking Liverpool with Loic Remy and Divock Origi, along with Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic, it'll be a difficult fight for the Swede. In addition, Fabio Borini is set to turn down a £14 million move to Sunderland, meaning he too will be contending for a spot on the bench or the first team, along with young Spaniard Suso, who was impressive on loan for Almeria in La Liga last season.

Kris Peterson will look to impress in America in the hope of reaching the bench for the Merseyside club and if he impresses, he may get the chance to prove himself on the big stage. However, many believe that the youngster may need more time before being given his competitive debut as currently, at the age of 19, he may be too young to handle the pressure of performing for such a prestigious club in a match that truly matters.

Either way, Kris Peterson is a huge talent and the Reds are lucky to have him and many are sure he will reach first team in the near future, especially if he's as good as he has shown this pre-season.
