Liverpool managed to scrape past Sunderland in their opening game of the U21 season, with Northern Irishman, Ryan McLaughlin grabbing a late winner. This time round, only 3 days later, Liverpool`s youngsters go at it again, with a game against fierce rivals, Man United.

The Liverpool youngster had a terrific summer, with the future stars travelling to Holland along with the U18`s as they faced some of Europe`s brightest teams. Jordan Rossiter, Llyod Jones, Kris Peterson were amongst the youngster who caught the eye of first team coach, Rodgers, and the Northern Irishman brought Peterson on the tour of The US.

There was a shakeup in terms of coaching roles within the club, with Alex Inglethorpe moving to academy director, while Michael Beale was promoted from U16 manager to the head coach of the U21`s.

Liverpool lost their semi-final last season in a dramatic game against Man United at Anfield, which saw United qualify for the final. There`s no doubt that the memory of that defeat will only add to the tensions that will already be there due to the historical rivalry.
