Simon Mignolet

He had very little to do but failed on the one big occasion he was called to duty. He rushed out of his line too soon prior to the equalizer of the Bulgarians. His ball distribution was also typically poor. 4/10

Javier Manquillo

Liverpool fans are probably hoping Athletico Madrid are not paying attention to the young Spinard's performances to convince them trigger whatever clause they have in the Manquillo  loan deal. Such has been his performances that Red fans are justifiably worried he was not bought outright. He may not have been flamboyant as his compatriot on the other flank but he was no less effective. Defensively he was very solid- blocking crosses, tackling well and intercepting moves of the opposition. Even though he went forward a number of times, his ability to track back ensured the opposition did not exploit the right side of the Liverpool defence. Earned the penalty that led to the winning goal.7/10

Alberto Moreno

What a prospect Liverpool has on their hands. A left back who can attack so well and defend too. His flamboyance in the attacking sense may have caught the attention but as effective was his defensive work. His  last man tackle prior to setting up the first goal was very crucial. He however needs to work on his positioning as on a number of occasions he was caught too forward exposing the left side of the Liverpool defence. 7/10

Manadou Sakho

A solid all round display laced with a few nervy moments. An improvement on any of his outing this season. 5/10

Dejan Lovren

A mixed performance on the night by the Croat. Solid in tackles on some occasions  but poor positioning and decisions on others. His tendency to go down too soon instead of attacking balls is worrying. He was at fault for the goal Liverpool conceded. 5/10

Steven Gerrard

Showed immense calmness and stregth to score from the spot late in the game. That aside, his performance was not impressive. His costless kicks did not threaten the opposition whiles his positioning through out the match was not the best. 5/10

Jordan Henderson

Not his best game but the new vice captain was decent on the night. He pressed well and was at the heart of the few good attacking moves of Liverpool.  6/10

Phillipe Coutinho

A very poor performance by the Brazilian. He was reckless with possession and poor in passing. Hardly influenced the game. His only good move was his link up play with Sterling to set up Lalana in the first half. 4/10

Adam Lallana

He showed glimpses of his skills on the ball and movement but his lack of match fitness thwarted his ability to influence the game. He should have scored in the first half after being set up by Henderson.  5/10

Raheem Sterling

He was not his vibrant self in the first half but together with Moreno provided the best attacking outlet for Liverpool. He grew more into the game in the second half and especially when he was played at the tip of the diamond.  6/10

Mario Balotelli

A good display by the Italian. Showed desire and worked hard throughout the game.  Took his goal well and could have had a second but for a good save by the goal keeper of the Bulgarians. 6/10

Lucas Leiva

The Brazilian did not influence the game in any way. 4/10

Fabio Borini

Had a decent spell when he came on and could have scored with a header from a Manquillo cross.  5/10
