Liverpool fell to yet another defeat on Tuesday night, when they lost 1-0 away to Basel in the Champions League with a poor performance. Here are VAVEL UK's player ratings of the Reds' squad:

Simon Mignolet

Made a couple of good stops in the game but had a relatively quiet day. Showed no ability to command his penalty box during set-pieces. 5/10

Javier Manquillo

A decent defensive display coupled with a few good attacking moves especially in the first half. 6/10

Martin Skrtel

An unconvincing display from the Slovakian. Not a performance that will win over many of the Liverpool fans who still doubt his defensive ability. 4/10

Dejan Lovren

An average display from the Croatian. He and his central defensive partner could have done better in defending the set pieces especially the one that led to the goal. 5 /10

Jose Enrique

Given a chance to stake a claim for the left-back spot Moreno has almost made his own. On the evidence of his display in Basel, Moreno need not feel threatened. Started the game sloppily as he had to deal with plenty of pressure, but got better as game went on. 5/10

Steven Gerrard

Played in a midfield that was dominated by the Swiss side. His passing and distribution was not the best and neither were his set-piece deliveries. 4/10

Jordan Henderson

A poor performance from the vice captain given his very high and energetic performances since last season. His usual passing and pressing was not on regular display. 5/10

Phillipe Coutinho

Started the game on the back of an impressive show in the Merseyside derby. There were flashes of his dribbling and passing but nothing more.  5/10

Raheem Sterling

An uncharacteristically poor display by the teenager. A yellow card in the first 10 minutes, a number of poor touches and sloppy passes characterized his game. Was occasionally lively, but it just wasn't his day. 5/10

Lazar Markovic

Showed minor flashes of brilliance in the first half. That's where the positives seem to end. Gave away the ball too easily and his final balls were always disappointing. Still, too early to write him off just yet. 4/10

Mario Balotelli

A very frustrating performance by the Italian. There were a few good glimpses in the first half but so often he held onto the ball for too long or choose the wrong pass or tried shooting from afar instead of setting up a team mate. 4/10

Substitutes:

Adam Lallana

Was lively when he came on. He set up a clear cut chance for Raheem Sterling after a lovely exchange with Balotelli. 6/10

Rickie Lambert

Not on long enough to influence the game. N/A
