Brendan Rodgers chose to look at the positives in the aftermath of Liverpool's crushing defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. The Reds' manager was faced with questions about team selection, aswell as his own future, after the game - in which the Reds lost 3-0 to their arch-rivals at Old Trafford.

Goalkeepers -

A major talking point in the run up to the game was the selection of Brad Jones ahead of Simon Mignolet in goal. Mignolet's form has been questionable this season however Australian Jones hadn't played a Premier League game in 21 months. The decision proved to be a poor one with Jones diving the wrong way for Wayne Rooney's opener and being left stranded for Robin Van Persie's strike. Rodgers defended his decision and also, when asked, stated that Jones would be his first choice keeper for the forseeable future saying "Yes. I said to Simon it was for an indefinete period. Brad is very experienced. He came in during my first year and did well." In true football irony it was United keeper' David De Gea who stole the show on Sunday, with a string of saves seeing him chosen as the Man Of The Match.

Attacking -

Rodgers was clearly happy that his side created so many chances, noting that "We didn't create half as many chances last time {the 3-0 victory last season} as we did today." Yet the Ulsterman accepted that the right team got the three points saying "The more clinical team won." Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli were notable victims of De Gea's heroics, with  Liverpool spurning chance after chance.

Decisions -

Juan Mata's header for United's second goal was awarded despite the Spaniard being in an offside position. Rodgers was dissapointed by this, saying "The second goal was clearly offside. We {Liverpool} did the best we could with the players we had."

Defending -

There were sharp words for Liverpool's ever dissapointing defence. A system of three centre backs was used, with Glen Johnson ushered into a narrower role. However it wasn't so much the shape that cost Liverpool as the invidivual errors such as Dejan Lovren spooning the ball to Juan Mata for the third goal. Rodgers quoted "We made defensive errors that cost us today. You just can't concede the goals we did. The first one is a disappointing goal. We look like we’re going to take a lead and then they break up the other end and get in front." The goal had just came after Raheem Sterling saw a shot saved. "We lost our runner from the midfield area, which you can’t do, and the other two are also disappointing goals for us." Rodgers added.

Morale -

Following Liverpool's miserable performances recently, few were surprised to hear Rodgers speak about unrest in the dressing room. He commented "In every dressing room there have always been issues, but it is not something I discuss outside of the dressing room. The players are honest but we are not getting results."

Recap:

Rodgers' position is surely under question following his sides recent run. He told the press "We have to recapture the team ethos. It is clear to me that we are working hard to find the solution. Today we wanted to come here and create chances as it's something we haven't done of late. At least we created the opportunities, but if we cut out the mistakes, we'll win more football matches."
