Brendan Rodgers blamed the condition of the pitch at Anfield yesterday, as the reason for his side failing to find to take advantage of their dominance over Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.

Martin Skrtel headed Liverpool level at 2-2 deep into injury time after goals from Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud had reversed the lead Philippe Coutinho handed the hosts on the 45th minute mark as the Reds dropped more points at home. Rodgers insisted he was still proud of how the hosts performed, despite the "awful" condition of the turf and saod that his side could have wrapped up the game before half-time.

The Northern Irish manager told Sky Sports, "It was an outstanding performance, the quality of our passing and moving on a terrible pitch, the pitch is awful here.

"But I thought the players put that to the side, and the passing, interchange and movement against a good side was fantastic.

"We thoroughly deserved to be at least one up in the first half, but we made bad decisions defensively."

Coutinho put the hosts ahead right on half-time, but their lead lasted seconds as Summer signing Debuchy euqalised almost immediately, with his first goal for Arsenal.

Fellow compatriot Giroud smashed the visitors in front, before things went from bad to worse for Liverpool as Fabio Borini was given his marching orders for his second yellow card of the game.

Liverpool captain Skrtel received treatment on the field for 10 minutes after a clash with Giroud, but played on with a bandage and the Slovakian rose highest to head a dramatic equaliser past Wojciech Szczesny in front of the Kop, seven minutes into added time.
