Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel's violent conduct charge has been upheld by the FA, resulting in a three-match ban.

The 30-year-old is alleged to have stamped down on David De Gea when chasing down a loose ball inside the Manchester United goalkeeper's area in their 2-1 loss to Louis van Gaal's men last Sunday.

The Slovakian denied the charge, believing that the incident was accidental but the governing body have upheld it, also issuing a three game suspension.

An FA statement read: "Liverpool's Martin Skrtel will serve a three match suspension with immediate effect after a charge of violent conduct against him was found proven.

"The defender had denied the charge which related to an on-field incident involving Manchester United's David de Gea in the 95th minute of Sunday's game which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"However, an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today found the charge proven."

With Skrtel set to miss his side's Premier League games against Arsenal and Newcastle United, in addition to an FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn Rovers, he may yet have brought further punishment upon himself.

As a reaction to the ban, Skrtel posted the following picture on Instagram, alluding to the fact that he clearly disagrees with the FA's decision.
