Kolo Toure believes that victory in this season's FA Cup would provide a platform for Liverpool to progress to the next level in their development, as the Reds prepare for their quarter final replay against Blackburn Rovers.

Toure, who has already won the competition with Manchester City and Arsenal, thinks that a trophy would represent a step forward for him and his teammates, who are keen to put the sorrow of two consecutive losses to Manchester United and Arsenal behind them.

"The FA Cup is still so special," Toure told the Liverpool Echo.

"Of course playing in the Champions League is great and that's where you want to be but winning trophies is fantastic.

"That's what you remember as a player - when you get to celebrate with your fans. I've been lucky enough to do that a few times in my career and it's something I would love to do again.

"Winning a trophy would be great for this young group. When you win once, you want to win more. You get the taste for it. It would be very important for the young players here. This team would move up a level."

The Reds take on Blackburn at Ewood Park, as they compete for a place against Aston Villa in the semi final at Wembley. Toure is hoping for a better performance than Liverpool managed against Rovers at Anfield, as Gary Bowyer's side held them to a 0-0 draw.

"They are a tough team," said the Ivorian. "It was a really challenging game at Anfield and physically they are really strong. Blackburn made it really difficult for us and we know it's going to be another big battle.

"Maybe with them playing at home they will need to attack more and we have quick players who can do well on the counter-attack.

"If we play with our quality and our belief then we can get through."
