Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes his side were full value for their FA Cup semi-final berth after they overcame a tricky tie away at Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.

The Reds drew 0-0 at Anfield to set-up a second meeting with the Championship side at Ewood Park and the Belgian goalkeeper was crucial, producing a string of fantastic saves before Philippe Coutinho's 70th-minute effort secured victory and a trip to Wembley.

It was Mignolet's 11th clean sheet of 2015 as the defensive improvements continued in a game which Liverpool controlled for much of the 90 minutes.

And Mignolet told Liverpoolfc.com that he thought the Reds deserved their win on the back of their performance.

"Our objective was to get to the semi-final. We knew it wasn't going to be easy, we knew it was going to be a tough game," he said.

"Blackburn made it difficult for us both at home and at Ewood Park. But everybody did their jobs and luckily we managed to score the goal which puts us in the semi-final.

"We gave something back to the fans, who have got something to look forward to now as well with a trip to Wembley.

"They stand behind us at every single away game, they turn up in numbers and it's always nice to play in front of that crowd.

"They pushed us forward and they have something to look forward to now with a big game at Wembley. Hopefully we can get to the final as well."

The home side stood strong throughout the first-half, allowing Liverpool plenty of possession but not much time and space to carve out any real opportunities in the final third.

But they were a completely different animal at the beginning of second-half, firing out of the blocks to force Mignolet into two brilliant saves.

Yet Brendan Rodgers' side, depleted by the absences of Emre Can, Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel through suspensions, whilst Mamadou Sakho was withdrawn in the first-half due to injury, defended well to recover from back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

"After the result against Arsenal there wasn't much time to think because we knew there was going to be a game on Wednesday," Mignolet added.

"So we had to recover well, put the focus to Blackburn and then make sure that we did the things we wanted to do over here.

"I think the lads and the team responded really well, did their jobs and did what the gaffer asked us to do, and we managed to get the result we wanted.

"They've got a couple of strikers with aerial ability and you know what you're going to come across with long balls, corners and free-kicks into the box.

"But we dealt with that really well, both in the home game and over here. Luckily we managed to score that goal.

"We're very pleased with the result. We needed to bounce back after two disappointing results against Manchester United and Arsenal and we did that."

Daniel Sturridge had the perfect opportunity to make it 2-0 late on after Raheem Sterling fed him into the box at the byline, but could only watch on agonisingly as his chip brushed the top of the crossbar.

The English international was almost made to regret it late on, when Gary Bowyer's men thrust goalkeeper Simon Eastwood up for a long throw-in late on. The ball fell kindly from a cross straight to the 'keeper, who controlled well and turned before shooting on goal.

Mignolet initially bundled the shot back into the box, but recovered at the second attempt to ensure the Reds' passage into the next round of the competition.

"It was Simon against Simon in the last seconds of the game!" said Mignolet.

"He had a great touch for a goalkeeper and a great strike, but luckily it was straight at me - that's what probably saved us.

"So we were very pleased at keeping a clean sheet again and making sure we got the victory we wanted."
