Mamadou Sakho looks set to miss Liverpool's trip to Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup a week on Sunday.

The French centre-back was forced off in the 27th minute of the Reds' 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night with a hamstring injury.

Whilst the results from scans have not yet been discovered, it is understood that the Melwood medics fear Sakho could be out for a minimum of two weeks.

That means the 25-year-old would miss the visit of Newcastle United in the Barclays' Premier League on Monday night, in addition to their clash against Aston Villa at Wembley - which Philippe Coutinho set up with a powerful drive inside the area with 20 minutes to go at Ewood Park.

But the implications of Sakho's injury on his fitness could hamper his involvement in the club's following league fixtures away at West Bromwich Albion and Hull City.

Rodgers will be glad to have Emre Can back in defensive service after he missed the Blackburn win through suspension, whilst Martin Skrtel will serve the final game of his three-match ban against Newcastle and will return for the clash against Tim Sherwood's Villa.

In their absences, Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren impressed against Championship side Rovers - as Brendan Rodgers' dropped the back-three on which Liverpool built a 13-game unbeaten run on this calendar year.
