Jordon Ibe looks set to return to the Liverpool squad against Newcastle United this Monday.

Brendan Rodgers revealed the winger has looked "absolutely sensational" in training after returning earlier this week, having not featured since a knee ligament injury suffered in the Reds' Europa League exit away at Besiktas in February.

The 19-year-old, who was in fine form before his injury, has completed rehabilitation and is well on his way to full fitness - with his manager revealing he could take some part in Monday's game against John Carver's Magpies.

"Jordon Ibe will come back in," said Rodgers. "I have got to say, he has looked absolutely sensational in training.

"He has been out for a while but he has been out on the field for a couple of weeks now, doing his preparation work and he has joined in training.

"He has looked absolutely outstanding - he has got real natural fitness. He'll come into the squad for Monday night. Some of the others that have been out are still out."

Despite the good news of Ibe's return, Rodgers will still be without a number of first-teamers - including Adam Lallana.

"I don't think he'll be ready for Monday," Rodgers admitted. "We'll just see how that goes into next week."

Another potential absentee is Mario Balotelli, who missed the Reds' successive league losses and the win over Blackburn with a knee injury and illness respectively, but the Italian will face a late fitness test.

Rodgers added: "We'll assess that over the next couple of days. He was injured [for] Arsenal so wasn't available. He's been ill since midweek and continues to be, so we'll see over the next 24 hours how that is."
