Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho has been enlisted on the shortlist for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award, as well as the award for Young Player of the Year.

Alongside Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard, Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and David de Gea of Manchester United are the Brazilian's rivals for the award, looking to succeed Luis Suarez - who won for his immense contributions during the 2013-14 campaign.

Recently described as Liverpool's "go-to" man by ex-Red Jamie Carragher, Coutinho has lit up the Premier League with recent performances.

The 22-year-old had an indifferent start to the season, his form fluctuating, but after Christmas - Coutinho has found his best in a central role.

With four goals and four assists to his name in the league, Coutinho has attracted the attentions for superb strikes from distance against Southampton and Manchester City - becoming the creative key since the loss of Suarez last summer.

The mercurial playmaker, who has already won PFA Fans' Player of the month back in February, has been showered by praise recently. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted the Brazilian's best years are yet to come, after John Terry's Instagram picture revealed he had voted Coutinho for POTY recently.

Rodgers, speaking in a press conference, said: "John [Terry] is probably looking at his performance level. It's been outstanding in the time since he's been here and he's only going to get better, which is the pleasing thing for Liverpool."

Coutinho has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award, whilst Reds' winger Raheem Sterling - who described his teammate as "magic" in a recent interview - joins him on the list.

Kane, Hazard and De Gea also join the YPOTY list - in addition to Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The list was voted for by players from over 100 clubs from the Premier League, Football League and Women’s Super League.

The winners will be announced at the 42nd PFA Awards Dinner at the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday, April 26.
