Brendan Rodgers managerial position at Liverpool is said to be under no immediate threat, with club owners Fenway Sports Group said to be giving the Northern Irishman another year at the helm.

There have been clamours in recent weeks for FSG to give the Ulsterman his P-45, after a disappointing season for the Reds, which culminated in a 6-1 defeat to Stoke on Sunday. Following the loss, Rodgers admitted "If the owners want me to go, I go."

However, it seems like that will not be the case, with rumours suggesting that Liverpool's American owners will decide against sacking Rodgers, with a view to reviewing the season with him, in a meeting scheduled to be held over the next few weeks.

Said 'meeting' will be much like the one held with Kenny Daglish three years ago, in which the Scotsman was officially relieved from his duties after a similarly disappointing season to the one Liverpool have endured this year.

Despite the comparisons, it appears that Rodgers' success of last year, leading Liverpool to second place, will hold up in terms of allowing himself and the team to improve on their 6th placed finish.

For now, Rodgers is set to attend the League Managers Association awards gala later this week. The same awards ceremony where he picked up the Manager of the Year accolade just a year ago, no doubt leaving him with food for thought as to how sharply his side has declined.
