Fabio Borini's agent, Marco De Marchi, insists his client wants to leave Liverpool this summer.

Borini was given the chance to leave the club last summer, having been told he was going to be restricted to little playing time with better options ahead of him, in Brendan Rodgers' opinion.

The Italian had just enjoyed a fruitful spell with Sunderland, scoring 10 goals for them during a loan spell to help them stay up in the Premier League, as well as proving clinical as the club reached the League Cup final, evening scoring at Wembley as they lost 3-1 to Manchester City.

As a result of his impressive run with the club, the Black Cats were keen to secure his services permanently, having an offer accepted by Liverpool in the summer. However, Borini wanted to stay and fight for a place with the Reds, refusing to leave the club despite Queens Park Rangers also being interested.

Despite his great attitude to face up to the challenge at Anfield, he failed to do so, scoring just once this season in 18 appearances, with his departure in this summer's transfer window seeming almost inevitable.

Borini set for move away from Merseyside

De Marchi's comments when talking to Corriere dello Sport recently have increased this likelihood even more so. The player's agent expressed Borini's desire for "a new experience" and insists that "there are teams all over Europe interested in him."

He described the interested parties as "top clubs" too, ranging from options in England, remaining in the Premier League, to Germany's Bundesliga and Italy, although he admitted those interested in Borini's home land "have had coaching changes" which have "slowed things down."

De Marchi stated that his client "has no preference" in what team he joins, he just wants to be part of one "that gives him a clear chance to prove himself," taking a subtle dig at Liverpool for perhaps not giving the 24-year-old enough opportunities.

Last summer, the Reds managed to demand a £12 million fee for the player, but it is clear that his value will have decreased off the back of a much more underwhelming season this year.

De Marchi acknowledged this, admitting that the fee "given by Sunderland last year," which the agent believes is Borini's "current value," is likely to differ due to "the season he's had at Liverpool," as well as "the fact that in a year his contract runs out."

For the moment, "everything is on standby," however, "as the player is on his honeymoon" following his recent marriage, but he is keen to get out of Anfield, feeling "like a lion in a cage."

Borini joined Liverpool back in 2012 when Rodgers took over, the player having impressed the manager whilst at Chelsea and Swansea City. However, he has failed to justify his £10.5 million price tag in a red shirt, scoring just three goals in 38 appearances.
