New Liverpool signing Nathaniel Clyne has spoken of his joy at completing his move to Merseyside, how he is looking forward to getting stuck in and the influence that former teammate Adam Lallana had on his decision to join.

The £12.5 million signing of Clyne from Southampton was confirmed this morning, as the full-back became Liverpool's sixth summer signing, joining Adam Bogdan, James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino, as Brendan Rodgers continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Liverpool the place for Clyne

"I can't wait to get started," enthused Clyne after joining, also adding that he was "delighted to make a dream move to such a big club with all its history."

Rodgers has moved for Clyne to become Liverpool's first choice right-back, with Glen Johnson leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

Revealing that the Ulsterman had "shown a lot of interest in me," Clyne told of how he believed his new manager could aid his progression in football, saying "He works with young players and helps them progress. I still think there is a lot to come from me and hopefully he can bring the best out of me."

The Lallana effect

Clyne is Liverpool's fouth signing from Southampton in the space of 12 months, joining Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren as players who have moved up north from St Mary's.

He explained the impact that Lallana had on his decison to make the transfer, saying "Adam and I spoke a lot. He said it’s a good club - a big club with a huge fan base. He said the team is good and a good bunch of lads. He told me I’d be made to feel welcome if I joined."

“Knowing a few of the players at the club is good. I can join in with the lads and I reckon I’ll settle down easily," added Clyne.

Season expectations

Liverpool went close to winning a trophy last season, crashing out of both the League Cup and FA Cup at the semi final stage, as the club's trophyless run was extended to three years.

There is an expectation that this run must change this year, and Clyne is determined for it to do so. “I’m sure with all the competitions we’re going into this year, we’ll be going into them looking to try and win them," he said.

"I want to be competing for all the titles and trophies that are available. Hopefully we can have a good season."
