Liverpool's Adam Lallana has welcomed the club's latest signing, and his former teammate at Southampton, Nathaniel Clyne - hailing his arrival as a "huge scalp" for the Reds.

The full-back signed a five-year deal on Merseyside on Wednesday to become the sixth signing of a busy summer for Brendan Rodgers' side, and immediately insisted his desire to win trophies at Anfield.

And attacking playmaker Lallana, who made the same switch from the Saints to Liverpool last summer, believes the arrival of Clyne will give the squad a huge boost.

"It's a massive signing for us," said Lallana, speaking to LFCTV. "I played with him for two or three seasons at Southampton and since we signed him, he's come on even more.

"Last season he probably had his best season at Southampton. He earned an England call-up and he's been a regular in the squad ever since.

"To manage to persuade him to sign for Liverpool, when I'm sure there were other top clubs and even European clubs in for him, it's a great scalp for us."

Clyne "as solid as you come" according to Lallana

24-year-old Clyne made 94 appearances on the South Coast prior to his £12.5 million move and has made quite the impression in the top-flight whilst at St Mary's.

Asked about what exactly qualities Clyne will bring to the club in replacing the released Glen Johnson, Lallana added: "Whenever Southampton signed him from Palace, he always had potential.

"He's developed and learned the game, and turned from a kid into a man on the pitch. He's as solid as you come in terms of right-backs.

"He's good going forward as well. He's got a goal in the locker. One-vs-one defensively, he's one of those full-backs you don't want to come up against.

"He'll fit in absolutely fine here. He's a quiet lad and he likes to just get on with his football but he's a great guy. Knowing the Liverpool dressing room, he'll fit in perfectly."

Lallana gives Clyne ringing endorsement of life at Liverpool

In his first interview with the club, England international Clyne insisted that 26-year-old Lallana gave him a glowing recommendation whilst the two met up together on holiday in Las Vegas - but the midfielder revealed that Clyne had already been keen on coming to Liverpool.

"I was on holiday with him for a bit when we were in America together," he said. "I spoke to him about it there and I knew it was on the cards.

"He didn't take much persuading. His intentions were hoping that the deal could get sorted.

"Liverpool explains itself. The whole world knows about Liverpool. I just said to him that I hope the deal goes through because it'd be a great place for him to improve even more, especially under Brendan Rodgers' guidance.

Lallana hoping new recruits allow Reds to progress

Clyne follows in the footsteps of five others through the doors of Melwood already this summer, with Rodgers having spent over £40 million as he looks to bolster his squad.

Lallana is hoping that those new arrivals will be able to help spur the Reds on for a successful 2015-16 campaign.

"The signings, so far, have been tremendous. [RobertoFirmino, [JamesMilner, [DannyIngs and Clyne now. [AdamBogdan as well and young [JoeGomez from Charlton.

"It's a great variety and it adds to what we've already got. Hopefully it can be a good combination to help us to success."
