Liverpool's Andre Wisdom is expected to agree a season-long loan deal with Norwich City in the next few days.

The defender, who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, fell down the pecking order at Anfield after the superb performances of summer signing Joe Gomez in pre-season.

As a result, the 22-year-old is close to agreeing terms on a temporary 12 month stay at Norwich - who were promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs last season - with the Reds receiving a £1.25 million fee for the Englishman's services.

Wisdom - who can play at full-back or in central defence - is believed to have a long-term future on Merseyside after signing a new four-year deal with Liverpool in May, but has been deemed unlikely to get sufficient game-time under Brendan Rodgers this coming season.

Wisdom yet to nail down regular first-team place at Liverpool

The defender has been at Liverpool since 2008, after making the move from Bradford City as a youth player. He featured regularly for the Reds in Rodgers' first year, after marking his debut with a goal in a 5-3 UEFA Europa League win away at BSC Young Boys.

But after signing a new deal in January 2013, he featured less regularly - meaning he was sent out on loan to Derby County for most of the 2013-14 season.

Having been an everpresent at Pride Park, he spent a year on loan at West Brom - but after Alan Irvine was sacked in favour of Tony Pulis, he was demoted to a squad role and made only 24 league appearances.

England U21 international Wisdom has made 22 appearances for Liverpool, but is yet to cement himself in the first-team after playing just 45 minutes on their recent pre-season tour of Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

His switch to the Canaries is likely to see Gomez utilised as back-up to the Reds' first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne, after Javier Manquillo's loan was cut short, with Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure likely to deputise for first-choice centre-back pairing Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren throughout the season.
