Liverpool striker Divock Origi has admitted that all his hard work in pre-season is paying off, after he got amongst the goals against HJK Helsinki.

The Reds' 2-0 win in Finland on Saturday wasn't the most of convincing winning performances, but there was relief for Origi when he opened the scoring in the second half.

A monkey off his back

After netting in Liverpool's opening pre-season win against the True Thail All Star's, the Belgian had come in for criticism over the next few games by ex pro's for not being cool enough when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.

He'll have silenced those doubters for the time being after converting from James Milner's flick on, and the striker conceded that it's all been a learning process for him recently.

Origi told the media that is has been crucial for him to "adapt to the rhythm" of English football, and to do this he's had to "give 200% in every training session."

After the game he said that he was "happy to score", because it "gives him confidence for the season". Origi added that he was "learning everyday and now it's paying off."

Are Liverpool ready for next week's kick-off?

With Liverpool not coming up against any top level opposition during pre-season this time around, many have questioned the priorities of the club, with the idea of money coming above healthy preparation for the new Premier League season.

This has led supporters to wonder if their team really is properly ready for next week's opening fixture against Stoke City, as the Reds look to put to bed memories of their 6-1 thrashing on the final day of last season.

Origi explained that he thinks he and his teammates can prove the doubters wrong, explaining that the new signings have given Liverpool "a very strong squad," and it is that squad that is "ready for a very good season."
