Danny Ings has insisted that he is happy to wait patiently for his Liverpool debut, just a week after nearly coming on against Stoke City.

With the Reds drawing 0-0 at the Britannia Stadium with less than 10 minutes left on the clock, Brendan Rodgers revealed that he was was preparing to bring Ings on for Philippe Coutinho, in a late effort to find a winner.

A close shave at Stoke

However, Coutinho got the winner himself in dramatic fashion, turning past Steve Sidwell and shooting into the top corner from 25 yards, to give Liverpool a 1-0 win.

This rendered the substitution useless, as Rodgers couldn't bring Coutinho off after he scored the winner, meaning that Ings' competitive debut was put off for another week at least.

Speaking of wanting to get on the pitch, Ings explained that he was "itching to get on" and was desperate to "make an impression"

However, the striker, signed from Burnley this summer, had to concede that Coutinho's moment of brilliance deservedly stopped him, saying that "the goal was superb".

Three points for the Reds

Making himself sound like quite the team player, Ings appreciated the fact that the goal changed events, telling the media that he was "delighted" at his new side getting three points.

Impressing with goals in the club's pre-season schedule, it surely won't be too long before he gets to make his competitive debut, and he admitted that he was "really excited" at the prospect of coming on against Stoke.

Ings has settled in nicely

Clearly enjoying life on Merseyside, Ings revealed "I come in every day with a smile on my face" in reference to training, and he believes he's working with "good people and fantastic players".

Describing himself to be "over the moon" at settling in so quickly, the striker told of how the hard work is only just starting, and he wants to "work hard" every day in order to "become the best for both myself and Liverpool".
