After a tough game on Monday, which saw Liverpool edge out Bournemouth for a second win of the season, Martin Skrtel has assured fans that the Reds "will improve", but has insisted that the "the three points are all that matter" this early on in the season.

Christian Benteke's first goal for the club ensured that Liverpool maintain their perfect record to start the campaign, though the Reds were largely unconvincing at Anfield.

Both of their results so far have been 1-0, and both have come very fortunately for Brendan Rodgers' side - who have yet to find their full stride despite taking six points from an available six.

Skrtel is confident that the side will improve

Despite winning both games, Liverpool have been very lucky, and on another day, they could've ended up losing both encounters. But being so early into the season, Skrtel believes the points are the most important thing.

The centre-back said "the win is all that counts" and hailed the importance of another three points to the club's official website. He added that he was also pleased to have kept a second successive clean sheet.

Though there were concerns over the level of performance, as the Reds struggled to deal with newly-promoted Bournemouth for large periods of the game, Skrtel said that he has "no doubt that things will improve" and the team's displays will too.

Liverpool have kept two clean sheets in two games and they are also just one of four clubs to have won both of their opening fixtures so far, but Skrtel conceded that the Reds will have to step up their game soon.

It takes time for a new team to click

Skrtel knows that the opposition were unlucky not to take any points away, but believes that a team with so many new players, needs time to gel together.

He said that Bournemouth were "lively and dangerous" and played well, creating a "couple of good chances" even though they were unable to take any of them.

The defender continued that the Reds have had to integrate "many new players" into their squad and as a result, "it takes some time to get used to each other" which can mean "it can take some time until things click."

Liverpool face a real test next week

Liverpool's next game is a trip to the Emirates Stadium, where they will face Arsenal - who have endured a slightly more testing start to the season.

The Gunners lost their opening game at home to West Ham, and were arguably lucky to come away with a win from Crystal Palace.

Both teams haven't put in the best performances in their opening two games, but on Monday, both teams will be put to their first real tests of the new season, and it will be a wake-up call for either one or perhaps even both of the clubs - who continue to aim for top-four and silverware.
