Teenage Liverpool duo Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez have been called up for Gareth Southgate's England under-21s squad for their upcoming September fixtures.
The Reds two are in the squad for the double-header as England face the USA under-23s in a friendly on Thursday 3 before a clash against Norway under-21s in a European Championship qualifier four days after.
Gomez has turned heads with his superb performances early on in his Liverpool career. The 18-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in the Reds' first three games, helping to keep clean sheets in all of them as they remain unbeaten.
Naturally a centre-half or right-back, Gomez has impressed with his composure, athleticism and strength in a left-back position - despite arriving from Charlton Athletic as an unknown entity in June after a splendid pre-season.
Though he was one of Brendan Rodgers' best players away at Stoke City and against Bournemouth, Gomez's best performance so far has undoubtedly come away at Arsenal - where he helped keep the likes of Alexis Sanchez at bay in a highly-entertaining 0-0 draw.
He now looks set to hold down a regular spot in the back-line and as such his displays have earned him a first call-up to the under-21s, having been a key member of the under-19s, 17s and 16s - helping the Three Lions to the UEFA European U17 Championship last year.
Promising winger earns first under-21s berth
Ibe, however, has been less impressive since a stunning pre-season campaign which saw him terrorise countless defenders and net a brilliant solo goal against a Malaysian XI.
As a result of his form, the 19-year-old started in both of Liverpool's opening two league games - but struggled to recapture his electric form. As such, he was benched in favour of Roberto Firmino for the trip to the capital.
He did come on as a late substitute, but was again unable to make his desired impact. Nevertheless, Ibe remains one of the most highly-rated prospects in Rodgers' squad and is called up to the U21s for the first time having played for the under-20s last term.
Ibe did have the choice between Nigeria and England, with the winger eligible for the latter through his father - but Bermondsey-born Ibe is understood to have committed to England.
The duo join a number of prominent Premier League youngsters, including Calum Chambers, Eric Dier, Brendan Galloway, Dele Alli, James Ward-Prowse, Duncan Watmore and Nathan Redmond - all of whom featured for their respective clubs over the past weekend.
The England under-18s squad meanwhile includes Liverpool duo Herbie Kane and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made a fine first-team debut against Swindon Town in early August, as they take on Holland.
