Young Liverpool winger Harry Wilson has joined League One side Crewe Alexandra on a four-month loan deal.

The highly-rated Welshman, who is the youngest full international to play for his country and for the Reds, has joined the Alex with the view to getting regular first-team football as he competes for a place in the first-team squad on Merseyside in the long-term.

18-year-old Wilson will compete for one of three spots in Steve Davis' three-man attack, with Bradden Inman, George Cooper, Ryan Colclough, Marcus Haber, Callum Saunders and former Liverpool youth prospect Lauri Dalla Valle the current options at Gresty Road.

He could make his debut as early as this weekend as Crewe make the short trip to Wigan Athletic in search of their first win of the season.

Wilson hoping to make an impression in loan spell

Born in Wrexham, Wilson has been part of the Reds' set up since the age of eight and has rapidly grown through the ranks to become one of the most promising youngsters in Kirkby.

The bright forward can play on either the left or the right and has grown a penchant amongst the Reds' Academy ranks for his electric pace and skilful trickery.

Two seasons ago, as he became the youngest ever player to play for the Welsh national team at 16 years and 208 days, Wilson had his best return with 14 goals in 26 games for the under-18s.

Having signed a professional contract with Liverpool in 2014, he has continued to impress - as he netted a stunning late winner in the mini-derby against Everton last season, as the young Reds narrowly missed out on the title.

After being named in Liverpool's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia but not getting any game-time for the senior squad, he's remained a pivotal part of the Reds' reserves this season, scoring from the penalty spot in their recent 3-3 draw with Everton.

He was also named the best forward of the recent Otten Cup in Holland, as Liverpool finished fourth - with Wilson scoring three goals in five games.

Reds not loan shy as they send out a mass of youngsters

Wilson joins a number of under-21s team-mates out on loan, with Lawrence Vigouroux, Kevin Stewart and Jordan Williams all plying their trade in England's third tier at Swindon Town, whilst Lloyd Jones is at League One's Blackpool.

Danny Ward is currently out on loan at Aberdeen, whilst Sheyi Ojo is at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Andre Wisdom is on loan at recently-promoted top-flight side Norwich City.

That temporary list is set to be extended with Ryan Kent and Jack Dunn being lined up for loan moves, whilst Tiago Ilori and Joao Carlos Teixeira - who have featured in the last two U21 fixtures - could also follow.
