Lazar Marković is set to become Liverpool's tenth loan departure of the summer transfer window as a temporary move to Fenerbahce looms.

The 21-year-old only joined Brendan Rodgers' side 12 months ago, signing for £20 million from Benfica last July and was seen as a bright and exciting young winger, but struggled to make his mark in his first season.

The Serbian international, brought in as part of an extensive summer overhaul to fill the void left by Luis Suarez, now looks set to join the Turkish outfit to earn consistent game-time and begin translating his abundance of raw potential onto the pitch.

He has held talks with the Süper Lig outfit, who have signed Nani and Robin Van Persie from Manchester United already this summer, and looks likely to reach an agreement with Vítor Pereira's team, who are willing to pay his wages in full.

Winger has disappointing first year at Liverpool

Marković made just 11 starts last season, scoring three goals in total - in wins against Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland in the league, and a victory away at Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.

His opening season with the Reds was mixed with inconsistent form, with one game against Basel summing it up rather well - as he came off the bench to be their brightest attacking outlet of the evening, before a controversial red card saw him last just 15 minutes as Rodgers and co. dropped out of the Champions League.

With several young Academy players out on loan, Marković is set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Luis Alberto, Andre Wisdom and Mario Balotelli in leaving the club.

There has been a worrying tendency for the Reds' signings flattering to deceive in their first campaign before sealing a loan move away and never returning, with Alberto and Balotelli highly unlikely to buck that trend.

Marković always looked likely to be on the list of temporary departees after figuring inconsistently in pre-season despite scoring and impressing in the first game of their summer tour in Bangkok.

And that was backed up when he was left out of the matchday squads for the Reds' first three games of the current campaign - though he could feature for Fenerbahce for the first time against Antalyaspor this Sunday.

Reds still looking to sell several players

Whilst Liverpool remain confident that Marković is a part of the long-term plans at the club, it is expected that it will be up to the young Serb to impress in his loan spell if he is to have a future on Merseyside.

After Marković completes his move, Liverpool will turn their attentions to trying to rid themselves of Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique - who are outside of the first-team picture.

The striker has come under interest from Sunderland, who he turned down a permanent move to a year ago, and several Italians clubs, whilst there have been no enquiries for the full-back - who has one year left to run on his contract.
