Liverpool FC have completed a deal for young Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who will be loaned out to FSV Frankfurt.

The 18-year-old joins from Imperial Academy, with the Reds having beaten AS Monaco, Red Bull Salzburg and FC Porto to the youngster's signature, with the fee expected to be in the region of £800,000 plus add-ons.

Awoniyi delighted to join "biggest club in the world"

Liverpool couldn't yet secure a work permit for Awoniyi, who will instead be sent out on a season-long loan to German side Frankfurt in the 2.Bundesliga.

He has represented his country at various levels, including under-20 and under-23, but can't feature for the Reds until next summer at least - when he is expected to come into Michael Beale's under-21s side.

The eventual deal could rise to a fee of around £3 million for the Nigerian, who has had a call-up to his international senior squad but did not come on to make his debut.

The move has ruled him out of the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville, where he was due to play for the U23s, with a spokesman confirming he left the Super Eagles' training camp to sign his contract in England.

Speaking upon completion of the transfer, the striker hailed it a privilege to be at Liverpool - a club he hailed as the biggest in the world.

He added that he will try to develop himself on loan so that he can "add value to the team" upon his return. He also vowed to give his "very best to make the fans happy" whilst wearing a red shirt.

Striker joins host of Academy arrivals

Awoniyi follows after a number of Academy signings, with Allan Rodrigues de Souza, Brooks Lennon, Bobby Adekanye and Elijah Dixon-Bonner just a number of the summer arrivals brought in to bolster the Reds' youth ranks.

So far this season, the under-21s have yet to take victory from their first three games after losing 2-1 at Reading in their final game prioer to the international break, whilst the under-18s were thrashed 4-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers last time out, which followed an enthralling comeback in a 4-3 home win over Middlesbrough
