Jose Enrique remains a part of the Liverpool squad after his deadline day move to West Bromwich Albion fell through, but Tiago Ilori has been given a few extra hours to seal a season-long loan move to Aston Villa.

The centre-back was the subject of a submitted deal sheet to the Premier League, which successfully went through before the 6pm deadline, giving the Midlands club two extra hours to organise the paperwork and finalise the move.

Ilori has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Reds, since making a £7 million switch from Sporting CP two years ago, but has previously uttered his desire to fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers' squad this summer.

Thus far, he has only spent spells on loan at Granada and Bordeaux - where injuries have restricted him to just 21 appearances in total over two years, but he had a strong campaign with Portugal's under-21s - who finished runners-up in the U21 European Championship, whilst he has also twice played for Michael Beale's Liverpool's U21s this season.

The deal, which will see Tim Sherwood's team pay a £1 million, is expected to include a clause which allows Villa to make the transfer a permanent one in 12 months time - though any fee is as of yet unknown.

Earlier in the day, the 22-year-old rejected the chance to spend the season on loan at Sunderland - who recently secured a deal to bring in Fabio Borini from the Reds on a permanent basis.

However, Enrique will remain on Merseyside after a deal to send him to West Brom fell through, despite the two clubs agreeing a fee earlier in deadline day.

The Spanish left-back, who had also been linked with Sunderland, couldn't agree terms to seal the move - and looks set to run out the final year of his £65,000-a-week contract at Anfield despite the fact he's unlikely to receive much game-time.

The 29-year-old has played just 18 times over the last two seasons for Rodgers' side, earlier insisting this summer that he was keen to stay on Merseyside, but he has recently been made to train alongside Borini and Mario Balotelli - both of whom have since left the club.

Ilori will become the 17th loan departure of the summer, with the Reds having also loaned out young Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi the day before immediately after signing him from Imperial Academy.
