Adam Lallana wants to use his mid-week goal against Bordeaux as a springboard for a consistent run of form to help Liverpool out of their recent Premier League rut.

The attacking midfielder made the £25 million switch from Southampton last summer, but has since struggled to maintain a regular run of form due to injuries.

Lallana did however manage a full pre-season under his belt this time around, in which he scored two goals as one of the stand-out performers on the tour of Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

However, after starting in successive wins at the start of the campaign, a thigh injury kept him out of the draw at Arsenal and losses to West Ham and Manchester United.

He recovered in time for the Reds' opening Europa League game, a trip to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux - and capped his return with an exquisite solo goal, which saw him nutmeg a defender before finding the bottom corner.

And having netted his first goal of the campaign in the 1-1 draw, Lallana is keen to have a similarly effective impact going forward, starting with their league encounter against Norwich City at Anfield on Sunday.

Lallana hoping to build upon first goal of the season

The England international acknowledged that he "definitely" needs to deliver such moments of quality "more consistently" with supporters still questioning whether his hefty price tag was worth it.

He added that he was "happy" with his goal and his performance, playing in a more central role which gave him increased opportunities to get forward and make an impact.

The 27-year-old said that he feels he can "give a lot" to the team in a central attacking position, adding he was "delighted" to prove he does just that when he got on the scoresheet in France.

Lallana said that he wants to "take responsibility" and contribute more readily to the team as one of the older members of Brendan Rodgers' squad.

He admitted it has been a "difficult start" for him on Merseyside, but says he feels "fit and ready to contribute" after his return from injury.

Despite a substandard start, with Liverpool having taken less than half of the points on offer and scored just four goals in six games in all competitions, Lallana says there is still "a long way to go" and "a lot of work" yet to be done.

He hailed the tie against Norwich as a "massive" game for the Reds, who suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat in their last home game, in more ways than one and said they have to "concentrate" on producing the goods.

Lallana believes that Liverpool have taken one step towards building some momentum with their draw at Bordeaux, that saw them start their Group B campaign with a solid point.

Rodgers took the bold decision to leave a number of regular first-team players back in England, instead using the opportunity to give game-time to those on the fringes of the squad.

According to the midfielder, that decision was vindicated, as the likes of Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno impressed amongst others.

Reflecting on the game, Lallana labelled it "satisfying to an extent" - in that it was a "decent point" and a "good performance" but said it was "disappointing" to concede a late goal.

He further stated that a point away from home in Europe is always satisfying, but said that the Reds' side felt they had done enough to "deserve a win" at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

But he vowed to move on from the game and focus on a "very important game" against Norwich, which he said it is "important" to deliver in - because they need to recover from back-to-back domestic defeats in recent weeks.

Lallana was also impressed by the club's youngsters who made their marks on Thursday night, as Jordan Rossiter held his own in midfield and Pedro Chirivella and Cameron Brannagan both made their debuts off of the bench.

Fellow teenagers Joe Gomez and Jordon Ibe, though more established, also featured as Rodgers continued his policy of placing faith in the up-and-coming prospects at the club.

He said that he tried his best to "lead the side and take responsibility" after the injury to Kolo Touré rendered him the joint-oldest player in the Liverpool side.

He added that he "felt responsible" due to the lack of experience amongst the side and said that the advice he and the older players gave them proved beneficial.

Lallana revealed that he and his team-mates want to help both Chirivella and Brannagan become "top players" and said they were both "outstanding" on their continental bows.

He also reserved praise for Gomez and the other young players involved, hailing the Europa League as a "great chance" for them to get "valuable game time" and gain "real experience" at a senior level.
