Brendan Rodgers has rubbished the notion of him worrying about the repercussions were Liverpool to lose the Merseyside derby on Sunday, insisting that his only focus is to beat Everton.

With the Reds only having won three of their opening seven league games, and drawn 1-1 in all three cup games, pressure is mounting on Rodgers, with some reports suggesting that a loss against the Toffees could be the final nail in his managerial coffin.

This hysteria, as Rodgers called it, was only added to earlier this week as Ajax manager Frank De Boer, who has been previously linked with the Liverpool job, admitted that he was looking for "a new challenge".

Ulsterman not fazed by job speculation

However, despite all of this, Rodgers rubbished the notion that his side weren't the favourites for the derby, and that he was worried about his job security should his team lose.

When quizzed on the Blues being favourites, he said "no, no, no, not at all," before adding that his team go into the game with the mentality to "win and win well".

He confirmed that although he hadn't had any specific assurances from the clubs owners, Fenway Sports Group, he wasn't worried, and has exchanged text messages with those above him, and there is "no drama" regarding the situation.

Jon Flanagan would be starting if fit, confirms Rodgers

Elsewhere in his pre-match press conference, the manager also admitted that he was disappointed not to have any local lads available to start in the game, due to the fact that they "want it that 1% more"

With Steven Gerrard having left the club, Jon Flanagan and Jordan Rossiter are the two most high profile scousers on Liverpool's books, but neither will be selected for Sunday's clash.

Flanagan has been out for a long while with a knee injury, but will gain a confidence boost from Rodgers admitting that he "would have been playing in it", were he not sidelined.

For Rossiter, a first derby will come too soon in his career says Rodgers, explaining that "he is not ready to play in a game of that magnitude", despite having made two senior starts within the last few weeks.
