Liverpool midfielder Emre Can believes that Jürgen Klopp could be the man to help restore success to the club as the 48-year-old closes in on a move to Merseyside.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager is the front-runner to succeed the departed Brendan Rodgers after the Northern Irishman was sacked at the weekend and could be appointed before the end of the week.

The Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group, have long been admirers of Can's fellow German and the midfielder, who played on the right a back three towards the end of Rodgers' reign, is a keen believer in his compatriot's abilities.

Asked about Klopp by newspaper Die Welt, 21-year-old Can called the charistmatic manager a "great coach" and explained that he "demonstrated in Dortmund that he can work at any team in the world."

Klopp the man for FSG as German nears three-year deal

Taking over after a spell with Mainz 05, Klopp led Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 as they usurped the more financially powerful Bayern Munich, whom he saw his side lose to in the 2013 Champions League final following a magnificent run.

He is undoubtedly one of the most high-profile managers currently out-of-work, which is thought to have played a part in their decision to relieve Rodgers of his duties.

And now Liverpool are hopeful that Klopp, who speaks good English and has long hinted at a desire to work in the Premier League, could be officially announced as their new manager by Friday - giving him over a week to prepare for their trip to Tottenham Hotspur immediately after the end of the international break.

If the three-year deal is finalised without any issues, Klopp is likely to bring his loyal assistant Zeljko Buvac with him, in addition to Peter Krawietz - both of whom have followed the manager to all his jobs over the last 14 years.
