Tom Werner is confident that Liverpool have made a "world-class" appointment after Jürgen Klopp was recently announced as the club's new manager.

The Reds chairman sat alongside the German as he was unveiled to the media and the club's supporters inside Anfield on Friday.

And having moved quickly to secure the sought-after 48-year-old's services, Werner believes that Anfield has welcomed the perfect replacement for former manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool delighted with "infectious" new boss

He called Klopp a "world-class" manager and spoke about his "proven track record" of success at his former clubs, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, which shows he has the "personality and charisma" to reignite the club and "take the team forward."

On the process of appointing a new manager, Werner insisted that Liverpool could not afford to let the opportunity to bring in "one of the most sought-after leaders in the game" and explained that they chose to pursue Klopp decisively and are "delighted" that he accepted their invitation.

According to the Reds' chairman, Klopp possess "all the qualities" that owners Fenway Sports Group were looking for, in that he is a "strong inspirational leader" who will adopt a "clear philosophy of high energy, attacking football" as well as, perhaps most importanly, being a "winner" who can "connect with and enthuse" the supporters

He vowed to help support their new manager "every step of the way" in order to help "achieve his full potential." The German, who has a week before his first game in charge, is "enthusiastic" about the squad at his disposal, Ayre added.

Klopp wants to see his side "fight to achieve success" starting from this season and believes his "infectious" attitude will "lift the entire club" in his attempts to do so.

Klopp will provoke positive reaction from players

Werner, who is also the chairman of the Boston Red Sox - whom FSG also own in their hometown, revealed that Klopp was long a manager that they had on their radar.

He acknowledged that the Reds had "thought about him for a long time" in the knowledge that the former Dortmund boss is an "outstanding manager" who "motivates players."

The 65-year-old American said that when the Reds spoke to Klopp he showed a "great connection" between his own personal vision and how FSG see the club "moving forward" via "very attractive, attacking football."

Werner was keen to stress that Klopp has insisted results and improvements may take time as he gets to grips with his new team, but they expect the players "to respond" to his personality.

Reds' owners keen to back progress up with trophies

FSG are nearing their fifth anniversary of their Anfield takeover and though there are plenty of positives into their five year ownership, Werner insisted that they want to solidify that progress with silverware and success in the coming seasons.

He referred to the "great moments" they have had since coming into the club, including coming "very close" to a first title since 1990 just two years ago.

He accepted that "nobody is satisfied" with their current position in the table, but vowed not to put "undue pressure" on the new manager - who knows there are "great expectations" on the club.

Despite such a dour last 18 months prior to Klopp's arrival, Werner is confident that the Reds are continuing to improve - saying they felt proud to display the ongoing Main Stand construction when Klopp was given his first tour of the stadium as the manager.

Nevertheless, he said they will not be satisfied until they have put more trophies in the cabinet as they seek a period of stability. He accepted that they have had more managers than they hoped, having overseen four in their time, but said they hope Klopp will be at Liverpool "for a very long time."
