Philippe Coutinho will undergo a scan on the suspected hamstring injury that forced him off during Liverpool's emphatic 4-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday evening - though manager Jürgen Klopp is confident it was only a minor problem.

The Brazilian was sensational alongside compatriot Roberto Firmino at the Etihad Stadium, combining with his team-mate for all three first-half goals.

Eliaquim Mangala's early own goal from Firmino's cut-back set the Reds on their way, after Coutinho had done so well to strip Bacary Sagna of possession inside his own half before finding the former in space.

Coutinho doubled the advantage to take his personal tally to four goals in five games against City, finishing off a counter-attack by placing Firmino's stunning cross through the legs of Joe Hart.

He returned the favour less just 11 minutes later in another stunning team move, Coutinho latching onto Can's back-heel through ball before poking into Firmino in space - who only had to find the back of an empty net for his first goal in a red shirt.

But having scored and earned an assist, Coutinho was forced to withdraw after 68 minutes with Jordon Ibe replacing the attacking midfielder after he had pulled up with muscular pain.

In his absence, Liverpool made sure of the points in style late on when Martin Skrtel thundered home a half-volley from a corner-kick, giving the Reds their biggest win away at City since 1989.

Boss hopeful injury nothing too serious for in-form Coutinho

Speaking to reporters after the game, Klopp was calm and confident that the injury Coutinho sustained mid-way through the second-half was not a serious one.

On the 23-year-old's status, the Reds boss said he hoped the attacking midfielder is "well enough" and explained that he was substituted because of a "little bit of cramp" and his complaints that he "felt something."

But Klopp dismissed it as "not a real injury" and added that he "hopes that's all" because of how quickly the Reds moved to withdraw the forward after revealing his discomfort.

Klopp also hailed how "very important" Coutinho - who has scored four goals in his last three league games - is to the team. He said that the No.10 is in "really good shape" at the moment after scoring in three successive games for the first time since joining the club in January 2013 and backed him to "react well enough" to the minor knock.
